Hey Festival in Romania

by | 23-08-2013 23:16

Fan Fest (in English Hey Festival) is considered to be the most important eco-festival in all Romania. The first edition has taken place in 2004, like a peaceful reaction to the exploitation plans of the gold resources in Rosia Montana village.

The locals are not agreeing with this nonsense exploitation and the NGO?s neither. The local and the national authorities think only on short term, not having in mod the disastrous effects on long-term. So following the tradition revolutionary spirit of Romania, people choose to point out their position by organizing a festival instead of making violent protest. People from all Romania, and also from the neighbor countries are organizing since 2004 a big-eco party where bad people and officials are not invited.

Fan Fest Festival is organized in a small village in Apuseni Mountains, Romania. This festival had become a symbol of the eco-activism in Romania. Go?s members from all Europe come in august at Rosia Montana to learn from each others and to have fun in an eco-friendly way.

From the surprises offers to the participants I can mention: eco-workshops, theatre shows, rock concerts.

One of the main objectives related to this event is the fundraising project for saving the national heritage in Rosia Montana village: Adopt a house so everyone can donate an amount of money, and a team of a NGO?s will use the money to renovate and conservation  the old houses from Rosia Montana, keeping the authentically architecture. Rosia Montana was in the past a mining point, but today this village has a big touristic potential: the old center with old houses, museums, and also the ancient under-ground Galleries from the Antiquity.

At this edition of Fan Fest the agreements activities meted the ecological activities with special events, scientifically discussions, screenings of documentary films, concerts.  The festival ended with a marsh against the mining project that would put in danger the ecosystem at Rosia Montana and in a large region around it.

Fan Fest is one of the eco-events from Romania that promotes the sustainable development: people to live in Rosia Montana without the fear of breathing toxic air, drinking non-potable water, and passing on bad soil.

The future development must be based on sustainable activities> Pollution must be minimized> the health must be the first one priority over the shiny gold.
