Up and Close with Romanian Ambassador and Youth at 12 Youth Assembly at the UN Simran Vedvyas

by Simran Vedvyas | 23-08-2013 06:23

I shared the work and TUNZA ECO GENERATION INITIATIVE AND SUPPORT at United Nations and among hundreds of Youth.  This is visible in one of the Photos too.  I can Proudly say that Tunza Eco Generation reached the United Nations HQ @ Youth Assembly and also International Youth Day.

It is not the first time I have presented my work at any Global Platform but the amount of love and affection the youth showed to me here was truly Amazing.  The Green Initiatives of SynergY Inspired many youth and after the Presentation I could see many youth waiting to shake hands with me and exchange their contact.

Romania -the lead endorser for the 12 Youth Assembly at the UN
I got the opportunity  to conduct a Workshop for one hour with the Youth primarily from Romania, Nigeria, USA, Liberia, Mexico, Australia etc and shared the work that SynergY in UAE is doing.

The diverse schedule of the event also included panels - involving the participants present in the room, and many other young people connected through social networking during virtual workshops - capacity building and leadership skills training.

I had the opportunity to meet the Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN, Her Excellency Ambassador Simona Miculescu from Romania too.  In her speech held during the opening session, the Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN, Amb. Simona Miculescu highlighted the strategic importance of youth in shaping the future we all want in general, and in impacting the sustainable development goals, in particular.

Personally I found her very encouraging as she inspired the young leaders to find their voices and make them heard by wisely and efficiently using the social media as she said-Young people are a major human resource for development and key agents for social change, economic growth and technological innovation. Participation in decision-making is a key priority area of the UN agenda on youth. Through active participation, young people are empowered to play a vital role in their own development as well as in that of their communities, helping them to learn vital life-skills, develop knowledge on human rights and citizenship and to promote positive civic action. To participate effectively, young people must be given the proper tools, such as education about and access to their civil rights.?

Following the motto Represent- On the Road to Action, the panels and workshops held during the 12th Youth Assembly focused on the empowerment of youth and their major role in the sustainable development process by providing the necessary tools, knowledge and capacities to be able to get involved in the global process for establishing the post-2015 development agenda.

The over 1000 youth delegates that came from all corners of the world had the unique opportunity to listen to inspiring and engaging speeches, delivered not only by UN officials and ambassadors, but also by civil society and private sector representatives. The Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN was much welcomed and applauded for its initiative to support and promote this event by lead speakers such as the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the acting Executive Director of UN Women, Lakshmi Puri, as well as by the UNSG Special Envoy for Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi.
