UNiting for Youth - United Nations Headquarters in New York

by | 22-08-2013 04:42

On 5th August, 2013, ?A Global Interactive Dialogue on UN Youth Initiatives with the UN Secretary General, Senior UN Officials and other experts? was organized at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The purpose of this event was to showcase the Secretary-General?s commitment to working with the largest generation of young people the world has ever known. International Youth Day represents a unique opportunity to highlight that having placed working with and for young people as a top priority in his Five-Year Action Agenda, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has ensured a System-wide Action Plan on Youth (SWAP), a UN Youth Volunteer Program and appointed his first ever Envoy on Youth.

The speech by the UN Secretary General was extremely inspiring. Inspite of his busy schedule, he personally came to address the youth and left immediately after his speech. It was a pleasure to hear him, live, once again after Rio+20.

It was a great honour for me to be able to attend this wonderful event on 5th August. I learnt a lot from the experts who spoke at the panels and interacted with the youth who came from different parts of the world.

This event was open to all youth from across the world who could be present at the UN Headquarters. One had to send an email request for gaining admittance. This was truly an amazing experience to listen to such wonderful speakers.
