Spice Garden in Goa

by Rohan Kapur | 19-08-2013 23:04

Visiting spice garden in Goa was an exciting experience. It is called Sahakari Spice farm

It is Located at Savoi Ponda, 25 kms from Panaji and 15 kms from Ponda, it is one of the oldest tropical plantations. With intercropping of spices with coconuts, betel nuts, pineapples and other fruits. Experience typical Goan Hindu cuisine served in mud pots and banana leaf. En route to the plantation one can visit a cashewnut factory and Ananta temple, submerged partly in water.

We were entertained by a group of traditional Goan dancers as we waited for our tour to begin. During the guided walk (about 45 minutes) we saw an elephant, and so many spice trees and plants. We saw workers climbing tall betel nut trees, showing how they pick the fruit and then swinging from one tree to the next one adjacent to it.

It gave me an idea of try to climb a tree myself & there we are. My stint with tree climbing. My parents reminded me of a possible fall, that may spoil the whole tour but I insisted and you may check the picture. It was anyway safe.

Anybody visiting Goa is strongly recommended to visit the spice garden. It is a must
