Underwater Litter Before I start my report, I would first of all apologize for my mistake of thinking that I already posted my post which apparently was deleted from my computer and the site during the process of uploading it. So I decided to make a new report that might be a little more fun. Between August 6~10, I went to Bohol in the Philippines. I went there to first of all do volunteer work for both the children who live there and the ocean, and second have some fun scuba-diving. You might be wondering what I mean by doing volunteer work for the ocean. Well, if you trace where most of our garbage is disposed of, the sea would be first place. So while enjoying my vacation scuba-diving, I decided to pick up all the litter in the ocean floor. While I was there, I learnt a lot more than just scuba-diving tricks. For example, I learnt various facts about sharks and sea turtles as a specialty course. I was very fascinated with the fact that although there are a lot of turtles, there are only 6~7 sea turtles. Also, that no shark is dangerous. There are sharks that might bight you and kill you because he is attracted to the blood, whatever the thing is, they usually only attack you if you did something very ?sea-creaturish?. For example, a surfer resembles a sea turtle when looked from beneath. Searching for trash, my companions and I found rather shocking things. Like it is shown in the picture, we found a fishing net just thrown away that could be very dangerous for any sea creature. Also, other litters ranged from cigarettes, all the way to vodka bottles. The most shocking scene was when we found a turtle that had a fishing line was protruding from its butt. We tried to pull it but it seemed as if the line was stuck somewhere inside the turtle. Through this special experience, I would like to recommend this activity to every ambassador here. I have to admit it is quite an expensive activity to do. However, if you have the financial aid to do it, then it is a perfect activity for us eco-lovers. Having fun while protecting our planet?s ocean, what could possibly be better? |
