![]() Bani used to be a beautiful and green valley in Jammu but now there are not enough Forests left. Bani's sewerage and solid waste of town is being directly put into the river making it a highly polluted river. There is no planning for the development of Bani although Sarthal which is 28 Kms from Bani is being promoted as Tourism destination. Two lane road is being built by BRO from Basholi to Sarthal but work is still in progress. Road construction has spoiled the landscape with masive excavations and dumping of debris on the downhill side. Banjal forests which were once famous for its moist Oak and Rhododendron forests have been deforested and denuded. Banjal was so beautiful that Lord Dalhousie selected this place to set up his summer capital. He moved to present site of Dalhousie only when Dogra King Maharaja Partap Singh refused to give this place. Therefore before this area mushrooms with concrete jungles and spoils the whole Bani valley it needs to be protected by everyone local or outsiders. Tourism Development Authority sitting at Kathua has no control over this area and uncontrolled construction and development is going on. There should be separate Bani Tourism Development Authority for organized development of the area keeping in view its fragile ecology and biodiversity. |
