![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today , 19 August, 2013 , is World Humanitarian Day . It is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. World Humanitarian Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. The day was designated by the UN General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq. This World Humanitarian Day , 19 August, 2013 , marks 10 years since the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad was bombed and 22 UN and aid agency workers were killed. On this day , we should join hands to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the line of humanitarian duty and as well as celebrate the incredible commitment of people across the globe who give so much to humanitarian service and most important we should do the maximum possible in our capacity to help and support who are needy , poor and underprivileged. Humanitarian needs are growing, and if we are to meet those rising needs we must all work towards it. I realize this and do my bit every now and then to help the needy & support the underprivileged. Like in Ramadan , I joined few groups to offer Charity Iftar to poor labourers. Recently I opted to be a volunteer and organiser for a charity souq as a part of ?Big Heart campaign for Syrian Refugee Children?. I spend time with autistic patients to bring smile on their faces. While on vacation in India , I donate and spend time with old age people at ?Old Age Home? & leprosy patients at their camp in Gurgaon , India. In july 2013 , I participated in campaign by ?helping hands? and donated for poor patients suffering from serious diseases but lack funds for treatment like kidney dialysis. I have been donating old and new clothes through donation boxes placed at various places across Sharjah , UAE by Sharjah Charity International. Sharjah Charity International is the humanitarian arm of the Government of Sharjah which started in 1989. It supports any underprivileged people or people affected by natural calamities like earthquake , Tsunami , flood or people affected by political wars , conflicts , bombs explosion like Palestinian orphans, Syrian refugees etc With more than 62 million people around the world in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, marking the World Humanitarian Day raises awareness for those whose lives have been shattered by conflict, famine and disaster. Sharjah Charity International is one of the charity organisations in UAE which works towards supporting such needy people. Thanks to the vision and boundless kindness of our UAE leaders, UAE has become the biggest humanitarian hub for distributing humanitarian aid. I urge everyone to do your bit to work on humanitarian grounds and support the most needy.
