World Humanitarian Day is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. The day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq. 19 August, 2013 marks 10 years since that tragic event, which claimed 22 lives. This year, the international community will pause to remember those who died, as well as the dozens of aid workers, who have died in the years since. But World Humanitarian Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. 2013 Theme- The World Needs More? I truly believe that the ?.The World Needs More Compassionate and Determined Youth to bring in the desired ChangeI recently traveled to USA to attend the Youth Assembly at United Nations and more, hence though a bit late but I share this event activity that we did last month on a Special World Humanitarian Day with hope that it will inspire and make everyone think and work on together as The World Truly Needs More? On 20th July 2013, 170 workers received the food packages in Tadweer waste composting site. In United Arab Emirates it is a common sight to see people giving more food to the poor and the homeless, and even to see large public areas for the poor to come and break their fast. It is said that if a person helps a fasting person to break their fast, then they receive a reward for that fast, without diminishing the reward that the fasting person got for their fast. Charity is very important in Islam, and even more so during Ramadan. SynergY members also promoted the important message to reduce food wastage Think East Save during this time. As Founder of SynergY, I chose TADWEER waste composting site because we planted 50 trees on the UAE National Environment Day here and realized the unstated harsh work these people do for us and this would be our way to express gratefulness and share time with them during the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a warm month and a time of fellowship with families, friends and surrounding communities. In total SynergY distributed around 500 packages during Ramadan without any monetary help.
