See the principles of sustainable development and who local community in this context, are close relationship between sustainable development and local community. Both, have emphasizing in economic, social, environment and local experience and needs. Moreover, actually SDGs can be reached by reinforce local community roles on sustainable development. It considered of the important of their roles, because of their living that near and interact directly with the rivers as natural resources. Effective, if they can manage the rivers as freshwater resources that around them and they live whit it.

There are strategic options to empower local community roles on sustainable development, in this case protecting rivers sustainability as freshwater resources. Important to create a detailed plan as an effort to answer SDGs questions effectively. The strategies are:

1.       Build sense of belonging: people with sense of belonging about something will care about it. To build this sense for local community who live in around the rivers can be reached by community approaching, educate and enlighten them about rivers, and make understanding  trough directional activity with the rivers like fishing and water sports.

2.       Develop local community business: in this case, to support their funding in local community through develop business through local wisdom and local resources, like eco-tourism. Hopefully, there are sinergical relationship between local community and the rivers.

3.       Sustain a local forum to exchange ideas between one local community and other communities. Also, to build relationships, and explore opportunities to work together.

4.       Craft a local vision and statement of principles for rivers stewardship linked to community development. There is no commonly expressed vision for the future of the local. A common vision can help align currently independent initiatives, leverage resources and accomplish more with limited resources.

5.       Convene a regular summit on local cultural traditions and history. A periodic forum may help launch and sustain dialogue about local community roles on sustainable development.

The strategies above are the options based on field experience, are not presented as a consensus-based set of recommendations. We fully expect that other people may have different – hopefully better – ideas on how to empower local community roles on sustainable development protecting rivers as freshwater resources. Moreover, it is not only to reach SDG?s but to save rivers sustainability on the future for human and natural living.
