Bio-Gas!

by | 12-08-2013 19:12

In response to other popular methods used around the world one uprising method is the use of Bio Gas. While this may not still be common in the main cities, it is a popular method used in rural villages and is much more favorable compared to using firewood.

In Kenya, a major biogas plant is going to be set up by Lake Naivasha a mjor lake. The biogas is expected to produce an astounding amount of 2,4 megawatts of energy to light up over 5,000 houses in that area! In addition, these facility will also be producing environmentally friendly fertilizer which will be used for farms.

The waste matter for this biogas plant will be from farm waste. Through anaerobic respiration of bacteria as it feeds on dead plant and animal matter will produce a gas biogas.

This initiative was started by Clarke Energy and Tropical Energy and they have vowed that any remaining heat energy will be used for greenhouse temperature control and industrial heating. Also due to the lack of electricity stability in that area, surplus power will be sent to the local electrical grid which will lower the cost of electricity in the region.
