Coca Cola wins Zero Basura Olympics

The Philippine Business for Social Progress, Earth Day Network Philippines Inc., and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Philippine Business for the Environment, National Solid Waste Management Coalition, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources organized that ZERO BASURA OLYMPICS.  .Basura is a FIlipino word for Garbage so the competition was for ZERO GARBAGE!


The competition recognizes companies for their solid waste management programs as part of the Ecological Solic Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003).  There were 24 companies that joined the competition and Coca Cola outstanding programs around solid waste management, in support of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003).


The winner was seven Coca-Cola FEMSA plants in Naga, Ilagan, Misamis Oriental, San Fernando, Sta Rosa 1, Sta. Rosa 2  and the Ilocos plants.  These plants were awarded for their solid waste management initiatives. These initiatives included waste segregation, waste reduction, recycling, and residual waste management and disposal.
