Climate change blamed for death of a polar bear

by | 07-08-2013 22:05

Very sad and horrible news has been all over the media. First, I came upon it while I was searching news on my cell phone. Then, on TV and the papers from other countries as well.

A polar bear was found starved to death in Svalbard, Arctic ocean. Dr.Ian Sterling from Polar Bears International told the Guardian that theMost of the fjords and inter-island channels in Svalbard did not freeze normally last winter and so many potential areas known to that bear for hunting seals in spring do not appear to have been as productive as in a normal winter,as a result the bear likely went looking for food in another area but appears to have been unsuccessful.

Jeff Flocken, at the International Fund for Animal Welfare, told The guardian that the threat of habitat loss from climate change, exacerbated by unsustainable killing for commercial trade in Canada, could lead to the demise of one of the world's most iconic animals, and this would be a true tragedy.

There have been many documentaries over polar bears losing habitats. However, one shocking picture just tells how horrible it would be the effect of climate change on eco-system.
