Serious algae-spread problem in major rivers in Korea.

by | 05-08-2013 00:23

The Four Major River Project, the main legacy of previous government of Korea, is under fire. After the new government takes the place, the project went through the audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection agency.

The result was released two weeks ago, which evoked huge reaction from ruling party, opposition party and environment groups. The original objectives were preventing floods and securing water resources. According to the audit result, the actual construction was not complied with the objectives which brought a claim that the project was really a camouflaged effort to build a canal by environmental organizations.

While the argument has been going on, one of the major river in Korea, 'Nak-Dong' river, is covered with algae. The severity of the algae blooms has been increasing, the first ever algae warning is to be issued.

The audit result will be verified in congress as time comeshowever, till then, the eco-system gets suffered by the politics.
