Jaguar, ocelotl, tecuani, el senor de los animales.

In Mexico, jaguars are a protected species listed as endangered, also in international conventions (CITES, IUCN), the distribution and current conservation status of the species are unknown in most of the country, habitat loss has been one of the leading causes of the disappearance of large carnivores and the jaguars are not the exception.

The jaguars inhabit a modified and human dominated landscape in Mexico. This habitat has been reduced, fragmented and destroyed, and the pressure from agriculture and the animal husbandry (ranch) continues, however the poor or non existent cattle management the lack of information, law enforcement and the diminishing  of the relationship between indigenous worldview and the animals are causing  of the decrease of the most powerfully feline in America, the Jaguar, for that reason, its so important to take actions preventing habitat fragmentation, also the habitat loss resulting from diverse human activities represents the main threat to the survival and conservation of jaguars,  law enforcement, radicated the hunting of the species and the most important, change the especism culture,,, the role of all the people, including scientists is to provide the scientific bases to achieve it to the long term conservation of jaguars and other species.
