by Bam Azores | 30-07-2013 23:12

A team composed of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman and the Diliman Science Research Foundation conducted an expedition up Mount Tapulao in Zambales. This mountain is said to be the tallest mountain in Central Luzon, Philippines.

The study took all of nine months to conduct and discovered at least 304 species of plants, and 142 species of animals living in Mount Tapulao.  78 out of 142 animal species are endemic to the country while 41 out of 304 plant species are endemic to the Philippines.

Mount Tapulao is considered a natural treasure trove for Central Luzon in terms of biodiversity.  Because of this the public is asked to protect the mountain and forests from threats of poaching and and encroachment.
