Zuellig Building puts the Philippines in the Green World Map

by Bam Azores | 29-07-2013 20:38

Everytime I visit my uncle's house, I get to look out at a building that has been quite interesting. Now I am told that it is a green building that has put the Philippines in the "green world map".   The building is called Zuellig Building, which has 33 floors and is in the heart of Makati City.

According to an article I read it uses green technology used in building the Freedom Tower in New York.

Some of its environmental strengths are:

It uses low-emissivity glass from top to bottom of the building, which most importantly reduces cooling costs in a warm country like ours.

Office spaces get natural lighting.

Photovoltaic solar power system was installed to generate renewable energy.

Gray water is recycling and rainwater collection resulting in over 70-percent water savings.

Location allows easy commute for tenants.

Bicycle stands are provided and showers provided for office users.

The Zuellig building is not part of about 100 buildings in the world that are LEED Platinum-certified. It means it passed a standard of assessment of sustainability of building in five major categories == sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. Congratulations to Zuellig Building.  This building has achieved at least 15% energy savings thus reducing greenhouse emissions and energy costs.
