On the 20-Jul-13, there was a record breaking event by Sanford for the longest Iftar table in the whole world was held in Sharjah, my resident emirate in the UAE. It happened at &:14 pm( The Iftar time) It was an astounding event as more than 3000 people sat down on both sides of the iftar table that stretched the Buhairah Corniche to break their day-long fast. This table was a whole 1 KM long and was crowned as the longest Iftar table in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.
I felt really proud to be a part of this event as I feel this was a lifetime opportunity and it is totally another experience being a part of a world record breaking attempt. There was a fully packed iftar box ready in front of each chair sponsored by Alberta Abela Co. which consisted of some dates wrapped in foil, a water bottle, a tetra pak of juice and an orange.
Later on there were also distributing Biryani so that after eating dates and drinking juice that release their sugar, they can have some solid food after a long fast. It really was an amazing scene when the Athaan started and everybody started eating at the same time. Me and fellow Eco-gen members Raunak Kapur and Arushi Madan were proudly the part of it and we distributed fresh dates to everyone so that they can save the work of opening the box and then taking the dates out of the foil they can just instantly have something to break their fast.
And as the Biryani had to be served hot and fresh, it was not already kept on the table, it had to be distributed. So we distributed that too and the joy on the faces of all the people when they saw us children distributing biryani to them was really satisfying. An elderly woman even blessed us for our noble deed and we felt really happy. Be?eah was also a part of this event as they were one of the sponsors. All in all, it was a very satisfying and blissful event which we enjoyed a lot. I am really proud to be a part of Sharjah, my emirate where this event took place.
