Tree For Charity

by | 09-07-2013 07:57

When I joined Car Free Day in Sunday 30 June 2013, I saw a stand with so many tree  "Alms for Trees".

Alms for trees is a program proposed by Dompet Dhuafa to invite donators and beneficiaries (people who have the right to receive) to contribute in the efforts of reforesting, rehabilitation of degraded land and environmental preservation.  I called it,  "Tree for Charity".

The basic idea is simple namely how to make a greening-based empowerment program for poor family. This program is also a bridge for the rich people in big cities who would like to plant trees but unable to do it because they do not have the land and have the time to nurture these trees. Thus with Trees for Charity the haves in the city only have to donate a hundred thousand Rupiah (10 US$) for one productive tree and its nurturing for 2 years.

It is expected that the existence of this program becomes an inspiration for Indonesia and people of the world on the mixture of poverty management using environmental activities model and themes and disaster management.

The Alms for trees program that has been running for 3 years has also gone trough various improvements. In some locations, this program has given benefits enjoyed by the community.

The existence of this program can urge philanthropists of both individual and company/institution to donate 10 US$/tree. Such alms is then managed and given to the poor and unemployed people in the form of a mandate to plant and care for productive trees until they bear fruits. Furthermore, the tree grower and nurturer are also the owner or beneficiary of the trees harvest.
