![]() ![]() ![]() Over the first decade of the car-free day movement (1994?), the world has seen hundreds of cities giving the CFD (Car Free Day) approach a try in very different circumstances, some good, some undeniably bad, some of them on several occasions. Another CFD was also hosted in Jakarta on Sunday, June 30, 2013. My family and I spent were participating there, along the main street of this metropolis with thousands of its inhabitants. Coloring the day, hundreds of decorated bikes and people from all walk of life – including those with disabilities – pouring the street. Some were jogging and many others were just walking along the fast lane of Jakarta's Sudirman and Thamrin main roads as the roads are closed to motor vehicles on this special day. Every Sunday, Jakarta?s CFD attracted hundreds of residents to Jakarta's busiest roads. The CFD is part of Jakarta's efforts to reduce pollution in the city of over 10 million people. |
