![]() The "Pico y Placa" it's a program for restriction vehicular that stars in Bogota-Colombia in the mayoralty of Enrique Penalosa, this is a great initiative that since March of 2010 it's also use it in the city of Quito-Ecuador, this restriction it's for all the vehicles private or public that in hours "Pico" (hours that have more vehicular traffic) depending of the final number of the license plate of the car, control the number of cars that can be used in this hours in the urban, so one day in the week they can't drive in the city in the established hours, the hours "Pico" are in Quito at 7:00 to 9:30 in the morning and at 16:00 to 19:30 in the afternoon and night. In the city of Quito it's organized that the Mondays the license plate of the cars that ends in numbers 1 and 2 can?t drive in the city, the Tuesdays the numbers 3 and 4, the Wednesday the numbers 5 and 6, the Thursday the numbers 7 and 8 and Friday the numbers 9 and 0 but only the taxicab, the transportation public and institutional, the vehicles of emergency, the diplomatic, the president and the vice-president of the Republic of Ecuador cannot comply this law, and only in the holidays it's don't comply this law. I want to share this article because I consider that it?s a sustainable way to reduce the Carbon Dioxide emissions to the atmosphere and also to control the vehicular traffic in the cities of the world because propose to the cities that have vehicular traffic to don't build more roads, just to look for ways of sustainable transportation for solve the problem, there are a lot of cities in the world that are applying this law, because also helps to reduce the consume of nonrenewable products in the cities. When the law it's applied we not only help to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and the reduction of the consume of nonrenewable products also we make that the people start to search other ways of transportation, like using means of transportation that don't produce carbon dioxide, like the bicycle or other ecological ways of transportations, for example in Quito the mayoralty decided to build bikeways to encourage to the citizens to use the bicycle, and this also helps to make a society healthier and concerned the overall situation, and it's the more important duty, make a society that cares about our planet. I want to ask to all the ambassadors what do the government or what do you do in your cities and countries to reduce the air pollution? |
