Workers of UAE work tirelessly 24x7, but they have limited exposure to the terms like sustainability and environmental issues. Green Brigade (http://www.facebook.com/groups/371497349573555/), the environmental group formed by us had been invited by the Al Futtaim Carillion construction Company recently to visit their worksite in Abu Dhabi. The aim was to share/explain to them the benefits of recycling and other environmental issues focusing mainly on what we can do as an individual to have a sustainable surroundings as a part of their celebration of sustainability week ending on 6th. June.

 Members of Green Brigade had adopted an unique way this time to address the workers?Presentation or simple address may not be very interactive to understand the issue and the actions required, so we had developed a small drama to focus on usefulness of recycling and as an individual how we can do that. In the later part of the skit, we focused on various ways of conserving water/electricity.  

We stared with presentation on  'Our Climate, our Responsibility' and what Green Brigade has done so far. Then we presented the skit, which was amazing and it received a lot of applause instantly. There were around 800 laborers listening/watching very attentively to the entire programme by the Green brigade members..

The skit ended with Green Brigade theme song sung out in both English and Hindi. The song got the people tapping their feet and singing along with us. They really enjoyed the fact that we were able to share with them something new in an exciting manner.

We then had a quiz competition just to conclude the session by asking simple questions on what we have told during the day in various ways. It was an instant hit with fierce rivalry between the labourers to get the TUNZA Eco-Generation prizes. The eco-friendly pencils and scales were a lovable prize for them. Al Futtaim Carillion Company management & workers appreciated us for the efforts that we made during the day. We also distributed  the Eco-friendly recyclable bags to carry their stuff around easily instead of using plastic bags

In brief, it was an amazing experience. The Green Brigade always believes that initiative of changes needs to start at the grass root level. This is what Green Brigade is committed to by sharing whatever information we know to the grass root level to make the society a better one.
