October thematic report. Introducing renewable energy.

by Patience Nansamba | 26-10-2022 02:06

Uganda has many renewable energy sources that can be used for energy production and the provision of energy services. These resources include bio energy, through biomass and bio gas, hydro, solar, geothermal and wind energy potential. Many of these resources yet untapped.
Though the government's policy vision for renewable energy is to make modern renewable energy a substantial part of the national energy consumption. Bio energy through biomass and bio gas is the most commonly used used source of energy in Uganda yet Uganda's current hydro power sector is the country's largest source of renewable electric energy with few people having access to it. However, measures have been put forward to introduce and increase renewable energy from 4% to 61% of the Uganda's population.
Small renewable power investment. The current feed in tarrifs are low, because project sponsors expect some subsidies. Intrested power project developers can invest in Uganda's electricity for the development of small scale private renewable energy projects in Uganda.
Residents on Uganda have been encouraged to be more energy efficient, recycle, place more value on environmental goods and services. This is important for making sure that society doesn't fail to take the value of nature into account when making policy and investment procedures.
Solar Energy technologies. Solar energy technologies have high upfront costs and there is no regulation that obligates urban developers to invest in solar energy technologies. By implementing this policy, both medium income households and owners of residential and commercial buildings in urban areas will be encouraged to invest in solar technologies.
Emphasis on the use of biofuels. Most bio fuels are used as transportation fuels, but they may also be used for heating and electricity generation. Biofuel can provide hydrogen, clean up oil, work as cooking oil. Bio fuel is known to be environmentally friendly and it can also help to clean up oil spills and grease. Bio fuel has been tested to work as a potential cleaning agent for areas where crude oil has contaminated the waters.
Biomass energy development and utilisation. It is a renewable source of fuel for producing energy. Biomass technologies break down organic matter to release stored energy from the sun. This technology is critical for social economic development in Uganda.
