Green Brigade Campaign on water/electricity conservation & re-cycling

by | 11-05-2013 05:26

We in Green Brigade, recently held its third awareness programme in last 1 year. This time we decided to take up on 3 of the major topics where common people can contribute a lot towards  our environment from their day to business : conservation of water, electricity and recycling of various waste like paper, aluminum can, plastic etc. We held the campaign at the Al Hilal Bank building in Qasimiya area, Sharjah. The campaign was held with 25 of our members.

We gathered at one of our member?s flat at 9-30 AM and had a brief introduction session by me on how to approach people and what to convey exactly. For the day?s event, we have finalised our own flyers on various topics like paper recycling, aluminum can recycling facts and figures and we had already our own flyer for water conservation tips.

After the brief introduction, we split up into 3 groups consisting of 8-9 members in each group to reach maximum household within a limited time. Each group then went knocking around on people?s doors and telling them about the various tips on conserving water/electricity and the usefulness of recycling. The flyers containing important but shocking facts and statistics about the resources in comparison with UAE and the world standards attracted people?s attention immediately. The flyers were distributed to them for their action in future.

At the end, we could contact about 25-30 households in the building and everybody had appreciated the efforts put by all the Green Brigade members. Few of our members are living in the same high rise building and for obvious reasons, we have given them further responsibility in checking with the households as a part of after campaign follow ups in coming months.
