![]() With the !==!--object--==ive of sharing knowledge and mobilizing youths in the field of waste management specifically through plastic minimization, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City- Social Welfare Division (Community Development Section) in association with The Nature Conservancy Nepal and support of UNEP, SAYEN, KU and CEE organized one day workshop program at Nyakha Chowk, Lalitpur on 11th Baisakh, 2070 (24th April, 2013). The participants of the program were from Bhaskar Youth Club and Bhaskar Machapucha representing youth and children from Nyakha Chowk. Similarly, program presenters and volunteers were from associated and supported organizations. The program lasted from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Series of activities were carried out in the program. The program began with the introduction of participants and organizers, followed by a short speech by the Chief of Lalitpur Sub- Metropolitan City Social Welfare Division Mr. Ashok Shrestha. He focused on contributions that can be made by children and youth plastic minimization, waste management and so in environment conservation. ?Small contribution from the level of children and youth can lead to strong and effective change in the environment management? he emphasized. After the speech a short presentation was given by Aryan Balayar on Plastic, its effect and ways of minimizing its use. The presentation gave a clear vision on issue of plastic and the several impacts of plastic in our existing environment and human health. He also suggested some important measures to control it and prevent ourselves from the hazardous effect of plastics. Likewise, a video conveying a very strong message on effects of human activities on the environment was also presented. Later during the Group discussion session the participants were divided into two groups where they discussed on how they can make the plastic minimization campaign effective and sustainable in their community. Each group explained their clear roadmap on plastic minimization via paper presentation. The first group focused on awareness programs where as the second group focused on 3R principle. There was also an interaction section where the participants and the organizers discussed how they can work ahead on the particular field. The participants have agreed to launch the awareness campaign using platform of Spelling contest on 27th April, 2013 and come up with concrete plan by 4th May 2013 Saturday. At the end Sukant Man Singh (Coordinator For Plastic Minimization Campaign-Lalitpur area) gave vote of thanks to all the supporters and participants for their co-operation, and requested Bhaskar Youth Club and Bhaskar Machapucha to come up with the concrete future plan for overall environmental management of the community. He also expressed his interest on developing long term relation with the clubs. The program concluded with a group photo. |
