I would like to share my experience of being a part of this month'sTerry Fox Run held at Dubai Festival City on 19th April 2013 . The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions around the world in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope, and to raise money for cancer research. The Run is a volunteer led, all-inclusive, non-competitive event with no corporate sponsorship, incentives or fundraising minimums. Terry laid out these wishes before his death in 1981. It is held annually across the globe . I have been participating in this for couple of years now. This year I opted to be volunteer . As volunteers we assembled at the venue at 6 AM and started setting up the place , registration desks , stage etc. People started coming around 7AM and soon we saw huge influx of people coming for this charity event without bothering about their weekend. It was amazing to see individuals coming and donating big amounts . My heart leaps with joy to see such large hearted people. Cancer is a deadly disease , so far can be cured if detected at early age which is not very often. So it is very important to raise funds through such events for cancer research so that people suffering from this disease could have some respite. At the end of the run , at finish point we were giving certificates to those who completed the run. I would like to spread the word about need to be together for such events , need to raise money for such events and need to walk/run for such events . It was time worth spent for a worthy cause. |
