PROJECT !--object--IVES - Desired situation: # Moving from carbon foot print to hand print would do a lot of good in protecting our nature. ? People going in the same direction or common destination at the same time should coordinate and pool up their mode of transport so that as many number of vehicles can be reduced on the road. ? One should walk up or use bicycle for shorter distances. ? Combining multiple errands into one trip can reduce usage of cars.? Use of public transport would reduce vehicular population on the road. Impact on local area: #Cars/vehicles used judiciously and economically, would result in lesser number of vehicles on the road.#Reduced volume of traffic on road means reduced usage of fossil fuels leading to reduced carbon emissions and lesser impact on global warming.# Reduced volume of traffic means lesser abuse of infrastructure resulting in lesser maintenance of infrastructure resulting in savings on expenditure on maintenance of infrastructure.# Judicious use of vehicles would increase the life of the vehicles.# Lesser traffic on road would result in reduced travel time. We will get clean air to breathe and avoid all sorts of respiratory problems caused by breathing polluted air.
PROJECT ACTION PLAN: ? We have developed a questionnaire, designed a pamphlet detailing the advantages of carpooling, one slide to be displayed on the digital boards in Infosys, some placards with slogans stressing upon the need for carpooling.# We have interviewed the employees that are using personal vehicles to commute to office. ? We interviewed employees travelling by cars at the exit gate when they stop for security check. We also interviewed some employees at the food court when they take a break for snacks.# During our first visit to Infosys, we noticed that car owners were not willing to carpooling due to lack of basic etiquette among the carpool seekers. So we designed a pamphlet on basic etiquette required for carpooling.# We designed another pamphlet on the savings due to carpooling.# Since the employees were not willing to spare time to answer the bigger questionnaire, we developed a shorter version collecting the basic details only.# The eco warriors at Infosys arranged to display the PPT slide on the electronic display board and the pamphlets were displayed at the entrance of all the office buildings. This activity itself created lot of awareness about the cause and about our project.# We made 3 visits to Infosys campuses at Gachibowli and Pocharam and interviewed over 350 employees.
