The legend speaks, the celebration of Holi is linked with Holika who was the sister of demon-king Hiranyakasyapu. After several unsuccessful attempts to break the devotion of his son Parladh towards Lord Bishnu (Hindus God), he asked his sister Holika to take Praladh on her lap and sit on the fire. Holika had a boon that she wouldn't burn in fire. But her boon finally faded away when she was committing such a big sin and so burnt into ashes while Parladh came out alive and unharmed. This can be seen as a victory of truth over lies or sin. This festival spreads joy and happiness among people regardless of age, sex, caste, creed or color. One colors the others and shares his happiness hugging him/her expressing "Happy Holi". In Nepal we celebrate Holi for two days on full moon day (Purnima) and mostly on the month of Falgun (February-March) starting from the Mountains and Hills on the first day and then following on the plains and Terai on the other day. Likely we students of Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science celebrated Holi with all staffs, students, local people and teachers sharing our love and spreading happiness. The different seven colors like that of rainbow when paints one, it deepens the brightness of love in the heart. Happiness shines to its fullest and smile that never leaves your face. Celebrating Holi was really fun and the most beautiful part was it included nature in its celebration here at IAAS. ![]() ![]() Several programs were organized at the premises of the campus by different student groups. The Gandaki Vidyarthi Samaj conducted 'Blind-fold Pot Breaking Competition' (Ghaito Phutai) in which the participants were blinded by a scarf on the eyes and given a stick to break the pot. After a few turns the participant is left on his own to move ahead towards the pot and break it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another student group, Seti-Mahakali Vidyarthi Samaj organized the folk song and dance popularly known as 'Deuda' where all make a circle and dance in the rhythm of the music. ![]() Last but not the least was the "Hanging Pot Breaking Competition" (Matka Phutai) organised by Nepal Terai Student Committee which immediately commenced after the formal session. Teachers colored students and blessed for a bright and prosperous future ahead and friends colored each other. ![]() ![]() ![]() The different student groups conducted various programs and took the fun to the next level. Amidst all, we, a group of eco-lovers requested the organizing committee to care about the environment as well. The random dumping of empty plastic packets of color, misuse or unnecessary use of water, using plastic balloons filled with water and many others may look small in such a big occasion but these small things really makes a difference. We urged every committee to be cautious and make a proper dumping or disposing site the plastic items and also minimize the use of water to necessary level. After the completion of these events when the greenery and the natural state of the area remained same as before the event with only seven different colors coloring the land, it felt as if we included our mother earth into our celebration of joy and happiness without any harm to her....... ![]() WE LOVE YOU NATURE........... HAPPY HOLI!!!!!!
