EARTH HOUR IN UAE

by Neha Swaminathan | 27-03-2013 02:35

UNITED AND ENJOYABLE EARTH HOUR 2013

Earth Hour 2013 was different from the usual routine in many respects. I am now used to the lighting of candles, switching off all lights, walkathon to spread awareness, playing the games in and around the Burj Downtown booths etc in Dubai during the past few years.

This year, I had volunteered to join Synergy Youth Foundation's efforts and this provided me a perfect backdrop. We reached the venue around 5.30 pm and I joined with Simran Vedvyas, my co-ambassador in Tunza Eco-generation and shining Youth role model.

Synergy members were bubbling, jovial, helpful and we were all united for a common goal – To spread eco awareness and be change leaders. Simran assigned me and Lohita, the role to request the visitors to write what they felt about the Earth Hour and we spent a good 2 and half hours in meeting and greeting many people to the Synergy booth and also many of them immediately wrote their messages on the colorful stickers pasted on the Expression board. The messages reflected the lifeline of Mother Earth and so many wonderful wishes were written down is each sticker measuring 4 square inches.

Afterwards we also spent sometime handing out the T-shirts, badges, leaflets etc, then lit the candles in celebration of the event and also participated in the walkathon with members of EEG, various like minded forums and the general public.

Hats off to Simran and all the youth forum members who captured the NEWS from all 4 corners of the neighborhood and captured them into the 4 inch squares. I only wish the 4 inch messages are followed as promises by each and everyone carrying Mother Earth into the 4th millennium and beyond.
