Dubai has been participating and supporting Earth Hour since 2008 and every year it gets bigger and better. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ) organized this year?s Earth Hour at the Burj Boulevard in the shadow of the magnificent Burj Khalifa , the world?s tallest tower.

It was matter of great honour and pride for Green Hope UAE to be chosen by DEWA as volunteers to set up and light the candle display which is always the centrepoint of attraction of the Earth Hour celebrations.

Our members worked enthusiastically and tirelessly to set up the display and as darkness fell and the time of 8.30pm approached , started lighting up the candles. It was indeed very motivating to be chosen to light the first candles for this momentous occasion .

Our members were also motivated by the presence and encouragement of the Director of the Ministry of Environment and Water. I had spent several days interacting with him in Nairobi during UNEP?s Governing Council meetings and he was happy to see the work of the youth in promoting energy conservation which can lead to green economy and sustainable development.
