![]() ![]() As an ambassador of Eco-Generation to the UAE, I feel that it is my responsibility to spread awareness about any upcoming event. Being the president of the Gavel Club by Toastmasters International, which is a communication and leadership enhancing club, I spread the awareness about Earth Hour to all the members during my Presidential address inviting them to join the earth hour celebrations and encouraging them to switch off their lights fans, television, radio and all other electrical appliances for just one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 pm and have some fun without gadgets. From the past two years I, with my pals and family have been celebrating earth hour with the Emirates Environmental Group at the Burj downtown, holding lit candles and walking a distance as the lights go off at the Burj Khalifa and Address Hotel. This year was no different as we rushed to the Burj Boulevard to join in the exciting celebrations. But this year I and my brother Raunak were volunteers at the EEG stall. We helped the staff of the EEG immensely by handing out the T-shirts to all the participants, spreading the awareness about EEG by distributing flyers, distributing the bi-annual magazine, distributing the year-end report, etc. We managed to attract a lot of people and many people registered as new members. When it was 8:30, we all joined in with the banner of EEG in our hands. As my fellow ambassador Unmesh Datta stated, we were walking behind the Dubai Police and the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai, holding the prestigious banner in our hands. After the walk, we enjoyed the show in which there was a beautiful and a mesmerizing Arabic cultural dance and lots of other performances. There was a prize-giving ceremony in the end in which all the organizations were awarded a momento for supporting the earth hour walk. The EEG student members including me and my brother were facilitated on the stage with the chairperson of the EEG, Mrs. Habiba Al Mar'ashi for doing good voluntary service. It was a really memorable event and we enjoyed a lot whilst adhering our duties as environmental activists. We are anxiously looking forward to the earth hour next year |
