NEPAL NATIONAL WATER WEEK 2013: FRUITFUL

by | 25-03-2013 03:32

To commemorate World Water Day and World Meteorological Day in Nepal, different organizations including governmental agencies have been organizing a week long programs since 2008 under an umbrella network of Nepal National Water Week with the chairmanship of Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS), Government of Nepal. In this context, "Nepal National Water Week - 2013 (NNWW-2013)" was celebrated from 17 to 23 March 2013 in Nepal. A week long program was focused on awareness, advocacy, capacity building and research oriented activities. The activities of water week were divided into three parts: Pre-activities, Grand activities and Post activities.

As an Ambassador of Tunza Eco-generation, I had an opportunity to support one of the pre-activities ¡°National Children¡¯s Painting Competition 2013¡± organized by Nepal Tunza Youth Environment Network (NTYEN) in collaboration with different schools of Kathmandu Valley. During which the stationary sent by TUNZA Eco-generation was used as an award for the First, Second and Third prize winners in the Closing Ceremony held on 22 March 2013. The prizes were handed over by the chairperson of the program, Mr. Bishwa Prakash Pandit, Secretary of WECS. I would like to thank NTYEN team and SEN for making a bond between TUNZA Eco-generation and Government of Nepal. Though I was unable to attend the event, due to my exams, it was matter of pride for me. I would love to express my sincere thanks to Ms. Kabita Gautam, Mentor of NTYEN and Program Assistant of SEN for providing me this platform.

Moreover, As a member of NTYEN, I had an opportunity to learned about Post ODF and Total Sanitation in ¡°A Day Field Visit to Sharadanagar¡± organized by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) in collaboration with Practical Action on 18 March 2013 as one of the week-long event of NNWW 2013.

On 23 March 2013, NTYEN organized A Youth Meeting where the participants got to know about UNEP, TUNZA, and TUNZA Eco-generation. The meeting was specially focused on Social Media and Networking which was facilitated by Mentor, Ms. Kabita Gautam. During the event, the participants got an opportunity to meet the Co-chair of NNWW 2013, Er. Mahendra Bahadur Gurung. On behalf of TUNZA Eco-generation, Ms. Kabita Gautam handed over the T-shirt to Er. Gurung. Similarly, T-shirt was also handed over to Ms. Gautam by one of the NTYEN team member. Then, on my behalf, Ms. Gautam distributed the stationary to all the participants as a token of love from TUNZA Eco-generation with a commitment that, NTYEN will promote recycled paper and eco-friendly pencil during its meetings instead of using dot pens.

I am very glad to be a part of TUNZA Eco-generation and interlink it with different youth networks, organizations and government here in Nepal. I have no words to express my gratitude to TUNZA Eco-generation for all of its support for creating this opportunity for me. I hope it will continue its journey with such a valuable contribution in coming days as well.

Cheers!!! TUNZA Eco-generation!!!

I hope I will get the future help from the Tunza eco generation to conduct the environment awareness program at Nepal. Many of them thanked me for supporting the water week and organizing the essay and green quiz contest in Nepal.
