Dear Green Friends, Some days ago in a conference in Patna (India), a Cabinet Minister talked of a wonderful idea to produce electricity and to utilize the waters that flood the plains of Bihar each year and remain unused. This idea has been previously implemented in the Indian state of Gujarat and has been quite successful. Water from the Kosi river floods a considerably large part of the state of Bihar each year. This water is not used for anything. But the Minister told the people his idea on how to make these waters useful in two different ways. He proposed that the water be covered with solar plates at suitable places with the plates being supported by pillars. This would enable the movement of boats beneath the solar plates. The purpose for making these waters accessible to boats is to use the water for fishing. In this way, the solar plates will produce electricity and the locals will be able to catch the fishes that flow into these ramifications through the river water. Hence, we shall be able to produce electricity without any harmful effects on the environment. Quite sustainable, isn't it?
