LET US REDUCE THE USE OF WOOD. FOR PACKAGING OF GOODS by \| 19-03-2013 17:55
After coming to my new city Jabalpur, MP, India . I came across a barren land filled with old / used wooden planks and packing boxes .I was shocked to see the amount of wood lying there .When inquired about the matter from the local peoples, we came to know that these wooden planks / boxes were used for supply goods / machines parts / automobile part in wooden boxes / pallets. Those used boxes became old and most of them are rotten. There are more than 1200 tones of wood lying in that area , which can be seen in my attached photographs Most of the companies of the city are procuring various machine parts from different location of India and even from foreign countries. Those companies are purchasing wooden boxes / pallets from their local sources. As a result a large numbers of trees are being cut to fulfill the high demand of making wooden boxes / pallets for packing of goods. Another reason for using wood is, it will not cost them much . After these pallets have been used they are either thrown away as garbage or collected in a barren land for further processing .They are now being sold to contractors in Rs.4 per kilo . These wood are being used for charring dead bodies or working as fuel for cooking food . While the companies are making new pallets which is drastically reducing the number of trees and forest in India .We want to make the companies aware of the disaster they are causing to the environment . We have planed to request the head of these companies to stop using wooden pallets and use steel pallets which can be reused multiple times . They can make packing boxes with reusable materials which will be a great help to the environment . Through this report we are looking for solution from our friends to avoid use of wood in packaging goods.
