![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The TUNZA2013 conference was a hugely successful event which was attended by the world's prominent youth leaders, who work for the environment, at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi. We, the Global Coordinators of UNEP MGCY , held a workshop for the TUNZA delegates on the very important topic of ?Youth in the UNEP Governing Council - Get Your Say?. Our !==!--object--==ive was to inform the delegates about the workings of the Governing Council and then obtain youth feedback about the issues of importance which they wanted to voice at the GC. We wanted youth involvement in the planning , policy making and implementation in line with UNEP?s mandate of greater and transparent engagement with stakeholders. In line with the Tunza Strategy?s section on Environmental Governance, workshop participants learnt about the UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum. While only governments can make decisions in UNEP, young people and other Major Groups have the right to participate in policy-design at UNEP. Participants learnt about UNEP?s openness to public participation and gained tools for influencing their own governments on environmental issues on the global and national levels. Workshop participants participated and contributed to the drafting of statements to be presented at the GMGSF and GC/GMEF. It was wonderful meeting and interacting with so many of my old friends with whom I have been networking since the TUNZA2011 Bandung conference which I had attended. Our workshop received an overwhelming response. It was indeed a privilege to be there as the Global Coordinator and the facilitator of this unique workshop. |
