Thailand - In Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park, Mr. Chitrabongs mostly explained about King Monkut's Summer Palace which was located in the top of the hill. The Summer Palace was built with European style and occupied with a lot western furniture. It was built as the King?s vacation palace which overlooked the city so the King could see the annual Petchaburi festival from above. The ASEAN-YEP Delegates also granted special permission to see the King?s chamber on the top floor. The second place to be visited was Wat Yai Suwannaram which used to be a royal residence that later donated to a Buddhist temple and used as ceremony hall. On this site, stood a special six-toe Buddha statue on a temple with mural of Buddhist angels and a painting of England?s King James. The painting of King James showed that Siam had strong connection with outside world. Another unique thing from this site is the library that was build above a fish pond using special Thai architecture technique. Mr. Chitrabongs taught a lot about the history and architecture of Wat Yai Suwannaram. The last stop for the excursion was the Phra Pathom Chedi National Museum which is the largest Pagoda in Thailand. Here Mr. Chitrabongs taught about the history and the development of the Pagoda, its architectural background and the cultural value of the building. To end this report, I would like to relate cultural visit with the environment. Of course a good tourism is the one with a clean environment. So, if you come to visit places, wherever you are, whatever it is~ keep your waste and put it in the right places :) Keep the clean environment for the next visitors, and for the sake of Our Mother Earth :D |
