Trash Buster: Picked-Up 2,2 ton of trash

by | 13-02-2013 13:38

After flood attacked Jakarta, Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary need to recover itself from the trash. Trash covers the swamp of mangrove. The volunteers coordinated by Transformasi Hijau(Trashi) Community held an event called Trash Buster on last Saturday, February 9th 2013. They picked-up the trash in the area.

The volunteers came from many segment: students, activist, public, official, etc. They participated-in because their awareness in environment. My community, Teens Go Green also participated in this voluntary action. I think, a voluntary action like this give me many lesson to learn: Sincerely and patiently.

Muara Angke as a habitat for Macaca or Mongkey with long tail, still need the time to recovery itself. The condition, I think didn?t look like a conservation area, but a trash area. The trash often become Macaca?s food. It transforms the natural habit of Macaca. I was so sad when I saw the Macaca bit the plastic bottle. They thought it was their food.

After clean the trash, finally, we got 2,2 ton of trash. Plastics, Styrofoam dominated the trash. Next time, with more volunteer, maybe we could pick-up much trash.
