![]() ![]() ![]() The Eco-School International Programme was launched in 1994 in response to needs identified at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The programme is being spearheaded around the world by the Foundation for Environmental Education and is being introduced here by its local partner, the Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS). A Green Flag will be awarded after the effective implementation of the seven-step programme, which includes setting up a committee to oversee environmental projects at the school, integrating environment education into the curriculum and working with the community to promote sustainable living. To achieve these goals, Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) in association with WWF held a colloquium on January 2013 about Eco Schools in the UAE. Eco club members from our school had attended the event . Various speakers and environmentalists from FEWA, FARNEK, DULSCO, DEWA etc spoke on energy, environment and water conserving measures. In the start Anoup Menon from the Water and H2O Magazine talked about the water situation in the Middle East and our responsibility in conserving water. FEWA and DEWA further talked about Energy and Water conservation. A Speaker-Representative from the Farnek Group emphasized on the role of equipment maintenance in saving energy. DULSCO educated us on simple steps to waste management at school while PTL Solar put forward their ideals on a Solar School Project. It was indeed a very enlightening discussion on environmental issues .
