My direct contribution in recycling programme - 2012

by | 06-02-2013 18:49

As a regular contributor to the Emirates Environment Group (EEG)'s recycling programme, I tried to look back my recycling efforts for the entire year to find out what I have done and what could have been done more...

Here is the quantity wise statistics received from EEG against my contribution for the year 2012:

 null

In other terms, when I translate this direct contributions all these efforts resulted in saving the following:

1

1,183 kg of paper

Approximate savings:

  • 19 trees
  • 600 kg of sulfur
  • 800 kg of limestone
  • 20,000 kg of steam
  • 70,000 gallons of water
  • 250 kilowatt hours
  • 3,5 cubic yards of landfill space
  • Reduced air pollutants by 175,000 tons.

2

35 kg of aluminum can

Approximate savings:

- 433 litre of petrol

- 140 kg of Bauxite

- energy saved to run a TV upto 7,875 hrs

I always felt that sky is the limit while we talk about recycling of various materials, so I am never happy with these figures and made a pledge to put more efforts at personal front to contribute more towards greener environment in 2013. I have set a stiffer target for myself for the current year.

This contribution came from various "customers" of mine (including my "Green Brigade" group) and with the increasing nos of  "customers", I am sure I can do better in 2013.
