My lost companion

by | 07-02-2013 21:47

A constant companion to my great grandmother, grandmother and mother, but to me it has no value. All these beautiful ladies would never leave the house without it and I would never think of going out with it. It is a shame that I never realized its importance but now if I don?t value it I will have to pay a heavy price for it.

Most of you may have guessed by now as to who this close companion .It is but of course the age old handkerchief. Today?s generation detests the idea of carrying one round coz they think it is too old fashion or too ancient a concept and by the way every place has a box of tissues at every corner. All you just need to do is to turn around, grab one use and throw. Who cares how it came and where it went.

But stop friends tissues come from trees and goes to the landfills. So you see you are responsible for the loss of trees and also for the pilling ==============of landfills.

But many feel that a handkerchief is indeed a messy thing to carry along (when we have a cold and flu) and a hanky might get soiled at the end of a day. But then our socks and other clothes also get soiled, don?t they? They are all washed and reused, then why should we find fault with the little hanky? All you need to do is to wash it and use it.

The use of tissue is a fancy notion but then this use of tissue at every second has its consequences. We need to understand some basic facts before we pull out that tissue.

The tissues are made from what are called virgin fibre of trees. Manufacturers don?t use recycled paper because they say it doesn?t give the softness that a tissue supposedly requires. For the same reason, remember, a tissue used once and thrown can?t be recycled and ends up in a landfill, unlike a cotton hanky that can be reused. Thus, manufacture of tissues does indeed result in loss of trees.

Secondly, strong bleaching agents are used to make tissues whiter and softer. These chemicals aren?t good for health or environment.

Handkerchiefs are indeed an outdated and old fashioned statement I guess but this small change that we teenagers make can bring a remarkable change in the environment we can positively save a lot more forests and contribute in saving the environment.

P.S. Have a look at these graphics designed by me

I hope they convey my message! :D
