A study of 2 young Indian environmental activists, the future of climate activism in India.

Garvita Gulhati -

Garvita Gulhati, also known as the Indian ¡®Water Girl¡¯, is the founder of Why Waste. an organization that promotes the conservation of water. It is said to have saved at least 6 million liters of water from going to waste with the help of its supporters.

Why Waste is India¡¯s most significant youth-led change movement to tackle the conservation and preservation of our water resources.

Garvita was the only Indian among 60 others from 42 countries to win the ¡®Global Changemaker¡¯ in the year of 2018.

Her inspiration to start Why Waste sparked when it came to her knowledge that more than 14 million liters of water are wasted every year. From then onwards, she was persistent in her efforts,  She had impacted, educated, and changed the mindset of many people to conserve water. She also received the prestigious Diana Award in Wales. and is on Forbes 30 under 30 for her social impact in 2021. 

She is a prominent outspoken environmental activist who has stepped in to conserve the planet through her actions. 


Heeta Lakhani -

Heeta Lakhani identifies with the role of environmental educator. A series of events opened her eyes, and now she strives to bring a positive change in the environment.

Lakhani is an environmental activist who has attended multiple United Nations conferences and frameworks. She attended the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and started interacting with local students after attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris in 2015. Shes the Executive Director of the 11th World Wilderness Congress (WILD11), an organization about water conservation, biodiversity, and climate change.

She also started her climate program Green Warriors where she provides accessible education about climate change and hopes to bridge the gap in the environment among children. Lakhani was awarded the YOUGO Focal Point from Global South India.
