Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, was confronted a big problem beyond of political issues. Because of converted forest land in upstream of West Java, Puncak and high urbanization, water from incessant rain fallen inundated throughout areas of Jakarta, even the President Palace was soaked flood. Dr. Amien Widodo, lecturer of Earth, Disasters and Climate Change course, in Antara News stated that ?extensive denudation of the Puncak mountain resort area reduces water absorbability of the ground in rainy season, sending almost the entire rain water to the rivers?. It could be concluded that the main problem of Jakarta flooding is the conversion of forest land in upstream area, Puncak. Perhaps, that problem have been a close friend of Jakarta floodings despite of other supporting factors that constributed flooding. Floods in Jakarta have been a subscriber that threatened the life of Jakarta itself. Because of annual floods, economic devastation and victims died were the negative impacts appeared. ?Losses in material reached up Rp1 trillion or around US$14 million?, the preach of Agung Laksono as Coordinating Minister for Public Welfare. The floods also eaten many sacrifices, almost 20 victims died. In addition, 100,274 families must be relocated to safety places. Yet, some Jakarta people complained with the government of Republic of Indonesia because still founded no material help to them. So needed fast respons to alleviate that problem. The government of Republic of Indonesia in partnership with Jakarta started to corcern in mitigating that case included: Linking good cooperation with dweller who lived in upstream area to maintain the forest and agriculture landIn downstream, Jakarta, The governor of Jakarta started to built multipurpose tunnels to stream the overflowing water in Ciliwung riverRevitalization program to open grounds to absorb rain waters by some ways, even some buildings that improperly layout of Jakarta will be lostReduce the bad habit of Jakarta people which was throwing waste everywhere through socialization and regulationAnd urbanizations should be controlled well. An appearing gossip stated that the capital city of Indonesia in Jakarta would be moved in other safety city. It is a reason of someone because of the annual floods in Jakarta. Apparently, the government of Indonesia also faced another problem which was the floodings happened in other places frequently, for instance in Semarang and Bojonegoro because of the destruction of mangrove forests, bad habit of improper management of waste, and so forth. |
