Eco Friendly Festival

by | 13-01-2013 00:55

In India especially in Tamil Nadu, there is an religious, natural festival called the pongal. Pongal is nothing but the foodstuffs of southern India. It is not only cooked in Southern India, it is also cooked all over the world. Pongal is made in a clay pot which is decorated with various materials. When the Pongal rises in the container(pot) people around it says "Pongalo Pongal" very loudly. It is said to be Eco Friendly Festival because no stainless steel container is used and clay pots(earthen pot) had taken the place. Not only pots but also sweets are from the sugar cane. The sugar cane plays important role during pongal as it is given to everyone as a gift. Three days celebration is going there.  First day Poghi, Second day Pongal, third day Mattu pongal ( perform poojas for ox, they are used to plough in olden days in the field).  Pongal is the harvest festival of Tamilnadu.
