[OCTOBER THEMATIC REPORT WIND GENERATION: CLEAN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY]

by IMMANUEL MWENDWA KIILU | 08-10-2022 18:34

Is it possible to live without energy? Lately, the consumption of energy is increasing due to the growth of the world population.  In this technological era where all the devices work by using energy, the new humankind challenge is providing sufficient amounts of energy.

The future is green energy, sustainability, and renewable energy. Wind generation is a clean and renewable energy that while at times unreliable, has very low upkeep cost and is growing at a rapid rate. While there is currently enough wind power to provide many times our current energy need, it is unfeasible in reality. Wind power utilizes the kinetic energy of air and uses it to power a generator to produce electricity. Even though dependence on wind power is impossible, it still can provide a strong, clean, quantity of power to supplement current energy production.

Jobs in manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and supporting services by 2050Wind generation is one of many ways to create energy and power. Wind generation is made from a big wind turbine made up of two or three propeller blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the shaft. The shaft spins a generator and that is what makes electricity. Wind is a form of solar energy and is a result of the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun. Wind turbines are made up of two groups of turbines, horizontal axis variety, and vertical axis design. Horizontal axis wind turbines typically either have two or three blades. These blades are made to operate upwind because the blades are facing in the wind. Turbines can be built on land or offshore in oceans and lakes. Wind turbines are very big and range in size from one hundred kilowatts to as large as several megawatts. Larger wind turbines are usually grouped together in large groups called wind farms. Wind farms are more cost-effective. Offshore wind turbines are larger and can generate more power. Offshore wind turbines are larger and can generate more power. Offshore wind turbines are easier for transportation because they can be transported on ships instead of trucks on the road. Single small turbines are the ones used for homes. Small wind turbines are used in connection with batteries, generators, and diesel generators.

These systems are called hybrid wind systems and are used in off-grid locations. Wind is a clean, free, and readily available renewable energy source. Every day around the world, wind turbines are capturing the wind¡¯s power and converting it to electricity. There are about 25,000 wind turbines installed in the world. Wind generation is a great way to turn energy into electricity. Wind turbines are clean and efficient. Land-based wind turbines are the lowest priced energy sources around today. Wind power costs about two to six cents per kilowatt-hour. Wind creates jobs. For example The United States of America wind sector employed more than one hundred thousand workers in 2016. Wind is also very clean, unlike power plants. It does not have all the fossil fuels that damage the economy.

Wind generation will always be effective as long as we have sunlight and wind. Wind turbines can be built on existing farms. This benefits the economy as well. Farmers can still use their property with the wind turbines because they only take up a fraction of the property. The wind plant owners pay rent to the owner of the rural property each month, providing landowners with extra income. That is all the advantages of wind generation, but there are also some disadvantages that come with wind generation. I will talk about them next.

Some disadvantages are that wind power must still compete with conventional generation sources on a cost basis. Depending on how energetic a wind site is, the wind farm might not be cost-competitive. Even though the cost of wind power has decreased dramatically in the past 10 years, the technology requires a higher initial investment than fossil-fueled generators. Another disadvantage is that good wind turbine property are often in remote locations far from civilization where electric is needed. They have to build transmission lines to bring the electric from the wind farm to the city where the electric is needed. Turbines might cause noise and aesthetic pollution.

Although wind power plants have a relatively little impact on the environment compared to power plants, concern exists over the noise produced by the turbine blades and impacts to the plant. Turbine blades could damage local wildlife. Birds have been killed by flying into spinning turbine blades. Most of these problems have been resolved or greatly reduced through technological development or by properly wiring plants. Wind generation will be a huge part of the future as they keep getting more and more popular and getting more job openings. Wind generation has both pros and cons just like power plants.

Wind turbines are pretty simple unlike power plants as well. Everything relies on the blades and a rotor and technicians usually measure the speed of the blade and make sure everything inside of the turbine is working correctly. Jobs in wind generation are growing rapidly and itis a great choice for a career because you will always need electric and it is a clean and cheap way to generate electric instead of the power plant that pollutes the air.

Finally, Wind and other clean, renewable energy will help end our reliance on fossil fuels and combat the severe threat that climate change poses to humans and wildlife alike.
