Nuclear Weapons: Against Humanity

by | 27-10-2012 17:09

From Asia to America, Europe to Africa everywhere there is threat to peace producing suffocating cloudy atmosphere. Wars are fought for different reasons such as political, Power, border, resource allocation, religion, and races etc sometimes between two countries and sometimes between two groups. Al-Qaida, Taliban and other groups are fighting for such few issues in Muslim and other countries Africa, Asia have also the same condition fighting and fighting for different causes as power and politics, resources and so forth. It is because power, proper politics, resources, border are the things which make individual, their groups and the nation self esteemed. Therefore, different people and their groups fight demanding almost same thing as self respect, power and politics, fair and equitable distribution of resources and so on. In all these wars different weapons are used which are able to destruct to different extents. Among these weapons the nuclear weapons are regarded as the most destructive and considered against Humanity due to its extensive degree of destruction.

The terrible sight of Hiroshima nuclear bombing was expressed by a survivor as "It was a blinding flash, everything around me turned sheer-white rings of light like a halo around the moon shone and spread like a rainbow. The next moment, a big column of flame reached up to the sky and detonated like a volcanic explosion in the air. It was a sight no words to describe" It was 1945, 6 and 9 August when two nuclear bombs little boy and Fat man destroyed two cities i.e. Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan respectively. Really, this bombing has not only physical and health effects but also environmental, social and psychological effects. It is because nuclear weapons are not just a big bombs having similar make up as terrorists bombs. Therefore, it is very difficult to explain nuclear weapons and their effects as it was a matter couldn't explain by the survivor of Hiroshima also. Thermal energy and ionizing radiations are the sources of energy in nuclear weapons caused by splitting and combining of atoms and their effect increases with their explosive power. The people are killed not only due to flame burns but also due to radiation sickness whose effective medical treatment is really not found yet. The large amount of earth, water and other wastes in the explosion area would be sucked up to form a mushroom cloud of radioactive debris and the fallout of these debris on earth and its spread is able to kill thousands of people at the same time making the city uninhabitable for many weeks or even for a year. Its live example was seen in Hiroshima and Nagasaki where within the first four months of nuclear bombing, the acute effect killed 90,000-166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000-80,000 in Nagasaki with approximately half of the deaths in each of these cities happening on the first day. The Hiroshima prefecture health department estimated that 60% died from flash burns, 30% from falling debris and remaining 10% from other causes on the day of explosion. During the following months, large numbers of people were died due to the effects of burns, radiation sickness and other injuries compounded by illness. The dead people not only die but their carcass gets cooked and vaporized at a temperature of 4,000oc .The body can't be identified after the death because it gets carbonized.

The radiation released from each step in nuclear production cycle is able to cause cancer, congenital defects, mental retardation, immune destruction, stillbirth, and other hundreds of health problems. Surely, these health problems make a person living dead. Such types of syndromes have been also observed among the workers exposed to nuclear power plant and areas close to nuclear experiment site. These all sounds like a dreadful nightmare if we imagined all these calamities by closing our eyes.

According to Arms Control Association, the total expenditure in nuclear program in 8.5 countries i.e. US, Russia, China, France, UK, India, Isaeral, Pakistan and North Korea (North Korea is in the half way) in 2011 was $ 104.9 billion while this was $ 91 billion in 2010. This expenditure could be further more if we added the cost of secret nuclear weapon program also. Study suggests that only $ o.25 is enough to feed per person per day and there are more than billion people suffering from chronic hunger. If we mobilize this money to feed hunger and poor people instead of using for useless nuclear weapon purpose, I think the global hunger and poverty will be reduced to great extent.

Thus considering this fact, United Nations Human right committee in 1984 recorded the designing, testing, manufacturing, possessions and deployment of nuclear weapons among the greatest threat to human right and concluded that the above mentioned activities should be prohibited and recognized against humanity.

Therefore let's join the global Zero Moment and help to seize a historic chance to achieve a world without Nuclear weapons. It is because we are responsible about our our future generation and the civilization.

lastly but never the least, I would like to remember Mahatma Gandhi who once quoted " We don't inherit the earth from our ancestor we borrow it from our future generation".
