ENVIRONMENTAL WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS

by | 17-10-2012 04:23

UAE?s leading environmental NGO , EMIRATES ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP (EEG) , organized its 12th annual workshop for students from across the country . The theme for this year?s workshop were twofold – ?MY CLIMATE , MY RESPONSIBILITY?   &  ?EVERY DROP MATTERS?. This is a much sought after educational event which is a ?must attend? for all budding environmentalists and like every year it was packed to capacity. The venue of the event was the Rashid School for Boys .

I have been an active member of EEG for the last 5 years and have been attending these annual workshops since 2010 , when I became eligible agewise. Both in 2010 and 2011, I had the privilege of delivering  presentations for the participants on environmental and sustainability issues. This year only two children were selected to attend from my school.

The day?s first topic was a  presentation on ?Climate Change? by Ms Karin Spori of ?My Climate? who came down especially from Switzerland to share her expertise on the causes of climate change and its effects . We learnt the effects of carbon dioxide emissions through experiments.

The next topic ?Every Drop Matters? was on the importance of water conservation. Each group composed a poem on the subject which was shared with the rest of the attendees.

Thereafter , we were appraised about the upcoming activities of EEG . We then broke out into  groups and we had a Socratic seminar on the topic ?The Killer Tomato? which essentially dealt with the negative impact on the environment of current industrialised processes.

I started my green journey with EEG and every activity of theirs is a huge learning process .
