Why trees are not enjoying with WiFi?????

by | 11-10-2012 10:56

This is the era of science and technology. Life without scientific inventions, discoveries and new technologies is very hard to imagine. All of the newly emerged scientific knowledge and technical expertise has played a vital role in making our modern life easy and meaningful. Among millions of scientific and technical discoveries, computer is the vital achievement of prevailing human civilization which became the integrated part of human life due to its wide applicability. Its broad ranged applicability helped to recognize this era as the era of computer. Similarly, Wi-Fi has promoted a different world within the computer and has developed the computer into more significant to our         works. WiFi and internet has added further more value in the original value of the computer because computers remained no longer just a machine to carry out human's works. But it has appeared as vital assistant of wise human community and gift of modern technological world. I think, we couldn't imagine of sending message/letters thousands of miles away before 100 years ago, fortunately today situation has dramatically changed. Message, voice, and event every thing can be sent originally in less than one second. Thus wide use of computer along with Wifi has made our works more comfortable irrespective of class, cast, and gender of the people. Likewise, several internet applications as facebook, Skype, yahoo chat, Gmail etc has emerged as good friend of people as they enjoy all the time with these applications. We know human society is enjoying day and night with Wi-Fi but the time has arrived of thinking about our friends whether they are enjoying or not. Trees are the major part of our environment and the best woody friends of us since our existence. These woody friends helped human society to exist in this planet to full extent. We are enjoying with wifi, it doesn't mean our woody friend is also taking the pleasure of Wifi. So respecting the contribution of trees, we should know the detail about impact of wifi on trees.

Wifi, wireless networking technology uses radio waves to provide high speed internet network connection which doesn't needs any physical wire connection between sender and receiver and it uses radio frequency (RF) technology to transmit the radio waves.

The main concern of this article is to link Wifi with plant growth. To know the detail about the impact of wifi on plant growth, Wageningen University, Denmark conducted a research. During the research, 20 ash trees were exposed to several radiation sources for a period of about 3 months. Among all these, the trees growing nearer to the wifi radio wave displayed an unexplained effect to tree growth and show diseased condition. The effect on trees because of wifi was completely different from any viral, bacterial or any fungal attack. The scientific group studied bark, tree sap and insects heaving their home inside the tree were adversely affected by the radio frequency.

Wifi radiation was found to be able to cause significant variation in tree growth causing bleeding and fissures in tree bark. Lead like shine due to death of upper and lower epidermal part was seen in the leaves of trees growing close to wifi ultimately resulting in the death of the tree leaves. In Netherland 70% of all deciduous trees of urban areas shows the similar symptoms. In addition, growth of corn cob was also found to be inhibited by the radiation.

Thus, all deciduous trees of western world are concluded to be affected by high and intensive use of Wifi, Wageningen University claimed. Therefore in urban areas where use of wifi is increasing each day, the chance of tree damage is also increasing.

In the present scenario where everybody is talking about green cities, high and intensive use of wifi has also came out as the major problem for growth and development of our woody friends. Several options are being searched to manage this problem. Some scientists like Hofverberg suggested banning all wifi use within 10 miles radius of trees. It is only the method known yet to save out trees, he has said. However, we all know, Wifi and internet have been developed as an important part of urban life and it is very much difficult to ban wifi. It doesn't mean we are ignoring our good friend but it mean we want to coexist with green urban life where we can see our green friends smiling. In the present condition scientists should recommend those species of trees which are least affected or not affected by use of Wifi rather than banning it.
