A Global Fight ==- International Day of the Girl Child

by | 12-10-2012 16:54

The International Day of the Girl Child , observed on 11th October , drew widespread support from global leaders and activists , as more and more cases of gender inequality make the headlines.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu led the way by speaking the at the launch of the UN campaign to end child marriage by 2030 , saying that  he is as committed to abolishing child marriage around the globe as he was to fighting apartheid in South Africa.

This important step by the  U.N.  to campaign to end child marriage by 2030 aims to liberate  girls from oppression , poverty and inequality.

"Let us help those who are already married to lead more fulfilling lives. All members of society will benefit when we let girls be girls, not brides," said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Education is a key driver in our goal of sustainable development and this must be available to all children irrespective of their gender .

Female infanticide is another rampant problem in many countries . This too must be addressed.

Ultimately , this fight can only be won by spreading more awareness .
