Peace development and Environmental Protection are interdependent and indivisible- International Day of Peace 2012 Peace is the marriage of the people and the planet Just as we should cultivate gentle and peaceful relations with our fellow human beings, we should also extend that same kind of attitude towards the natural environment. Morally speaking, we should be concerned for our whole environment. ~ Dalai Lama There can be no sustainable future without a sustainable peace. Sustainable peace must be built on sustainable development. ...From Sustainable Development... The root causes of many conflicts are directly related to or fuelled by valuable natural resources, such as diamonds, gold, oil, timber or water. Addressing the ownership, control and management of natural resources is crucial to maintaining security and restoring the economy in post-conflict countries. Good natural resource management can play a central role in building sustainable peace in post-conflict societies. ...For a Sustainable Future The International Day of Peace offered people globally a shared date to think about how, individually, they can contribute to ensuring that natural resources are managed in a sustainable manner, thus reducing potential for disputes, and paving the road to a sustainable future, the "Future We Want". Peace Day event provided an opportunity to inspire individuals and empower communities to celebrate victories for peace that have been won throughout the year, and to rededicate our commitment to work for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world all year long. Eco Generation-Ambassador Simran Vedvyas based in United Arab Emirates- Dubai, celebrated the International Peace Day- 2012, by participating as following- At MY SCHOOL The Millennium School Dubai celebrated the International Peace Day- 2012, by organizing a special assembly to celebrate and reinforce the importance of taking care of our environment and Peace Students worked on conducting Special Student Assembly which expanded to over 2000 students and 250 faculty members and invited guests- staged at The Millennium School, Dubai UAE, with main focus being Environment to rededicate the commitment to work for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world all year long.
