Green temperature to save energy, top priority in Korea

by | 06-08-2012 10:35

Record hot Summer hits Korea. Media warns about energy black out.
Chun Byung-tae, the chair of the Korea Nuclear Energy Promotion Agency, said in an interview that the only way to avoid a sudden power loss would be to have all Koreans participate in energy-conserving measures. He further commented that there would be no way for government to increase the power supply in a short time.

Mr.Chun suggested the ways of voluntary participations such as maintaining indoor temperature above 26 degree Celsius(79Fahrenheit) and turning off air conditioners during the peak time between two and five. Most of Korean private companies and government offices follow this suggestion.

In early June, Korea's electricity reserve rate dropped to as low as 4.9 percent of total supply capabilities because of the unusually high temperature. Below 7 percent is considered as an unsafe status.

According to the weather forecast, this sweltering heat will stay more, wearing out its welcome. To avoid, nationwide black out, not just public sector but private sector like individual homes voluntary participation is seriously needed right at the moment.
