![]() The 2012 London Olympic stadium is located Stratford, East of London. It is the lightest Olympic Stadium ever built. Part of the supporting structure of the roof is formed from 2,500 tones of steel tubing which was actually recycled from old gas pipelines. Before the construction began, the committee studied the habitat around the construction site and made sure that wildlife would be secured safe in other places. Around 4,000 newts and hundreds of toads were removed by hand and relocated during construction of the Olympic Park. To produce en eco-friendly event, the Olympic site has more than 525 bird houses, 150 bat boxes, and many otter holts to maintain local wildlife. The park will use 20% of its energy from renewable source. A biomass boiler will burn recycled wood chip to generate power. A soil washing machine will remove the petrol, oil and tar so the soil can be reused in the park. In terms of waste, the organizers are aiming for a zero-waste game. All packaging will be color coded to match color coded trash bins. Most food packaging, coffee cups, and disposable items will be composted. Plastic bottles will be recycled, and the small remaining non-recycled items will be used to regenerate electricity. London Olympic is near at hand now. Wish all the green planning will work successfully in the meantime. Sources: 2012 London.com, getlondon.com, metro.uk, visitlondon.com etc.
